KOKESHI doll is the most popular traditional folk crafts in Japan. It originated in the TOHOKU region (Northeast Japan). The hands of lather crafts men who lived in mountains like Gypsy, seek the good materials for their crafts.

Kokeshi dolls are made from wood. The wood is dried naturally before being shaped with simple tools. The finished shape is then polished with rice plant or ‘Tokusa', a type of grass. The vibrant Kokeshi colours are achieved using Indian ink, carefully applied by hand. The final stage is a smooth application of fine wax, giving each doll its soft glow.
As the Kokeshi dolls are hand painted, no two faces are alike.
